The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of George McGovern can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Lynn Hawver

Dear McGovern family, You have my deepest sympathy and are in my prayers for comfort at this time. Mr. McGovern was a special man and he will be missed by all those who knew him. Mr. McGovern was my Principal when we opened Landstown Middle School back in 1992. He always supported us as a staff and often told us that we needed to be sure to take care of our family first, because the job would still be there, but our loved ones may not. He also reminded us to "think about what's best for the kids," when we made decisions that would affect the students in our care. I think of him when the going gets tough and remember his motto that "No one rises to low expectations." I have that banner in my school poster box after all these years. My students hear me say this often to encourage them to be the best they are capable of being. May God bless you all with happy memories during this time as you grieve together. Cherish those stories and share them often with each other as a blanket of comfort in the remembrance of his love.
