Shirley Lee Dowell, 84, passed away November 13, 2018 at her home with her family by her side. Shirley was born to the late Jesse Garnett Lee, Sr. and Mrs. Adelia Denny Lee. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward E. Dowell, Sr.; sons, Edward E. Dowell, Jr. and Kenneth Lee Dowell; and her granddaughter, Lauren Marie Hannan. Shirley retired as a bus drive for the Chesapeake Public Schools; was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church and she was active with her late husband in the Chesapeake Shrine Club of the Khedive Shriners.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Dowell Freeman and Denise Dowell Hannan; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jesse Garnett Lee, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a reception. She will be laid to rest in a private service on Monday, November 19, 2018.
