Robert Eugene DeVary, 89, passed September 10, 2018 peacefully at home in Chesapeake. He was born in Bloomington, IL in 1929 to the late Theodore R. and Rehia M. Goetz DeVary. Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley R. DeVary. Robert received his Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Science from Illinois Wesleyan University. His service to the United States Navy included 8 years of active and reserve duty and 38 years as the Norfolk Naval Station Director of Recreation from 1955-1993. His achievements reflect his passion and commitment to enhancing the quality of life, morale, and welfare of sailors.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Rehia Lynn Rountree (Ronald), Laura Jo Horn, and Liesl Renee DeVary; grandchildren, Jennifer D. Johnson (Rob), Jeffrey D. Rountree (Erica), and Andrew J. Peterson, II; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Robert is in the care of Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Services and burial will be private.
