Obituary for Olin David Martin

Olin David Martin, 75, passed away April 11, 2018. David was born January 31, 1943 in Anderson, SC to Dewyatt Aiken Martin and Beuna Benjamin Martin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joann B. Phillips Rickett and brother James Melvin Martin.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Catherine “Kaye” Roberts Martin; daughter Donna Kaye Baker (Richard); Son Olin David “Tiger” Martin II (Paulette); grandchildren, Richard Edward Baker II, Barney Olin Baker (Tonya), James Erick Baker, Kevin Shane Baker, Alexis Marie Martin and Olin David “Trey” Martin III; great grandchildren, Kassidy Ann Munn, Ryan Ethan Baker and Katherine Grace “Katie” Baker; sisters Hazel Full Thompson and Mary “Decy” Zoby (Tommy); brothers Floyd Kenneth Martin (Ruth) and D.A. “Junior” Martin (Kathy); many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
David was a very loving and caring man who never met a stranger. This was evident in the many civic organizations and clubs he was in throughout his life. As a young man, David was in the Boy Scouts of America. In recent years David was a Legend/Charter Member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. David was a charter member of the Chesapeake Sports Club. He was also a member of the Great Bridge Lions Club and the South Norfolk Ruritan’s Club.
David enjoyed traveling to see family and many friends he met. David enjoyed traveling to NASCAR events and to the NASCAR Hall of Fame to attend many events and interact with fellow race fans from all parts of the United States and Canada whom he considered part of his extended family. He enjoyed attending and supporting all types of sporting events for his alma mater, Oscar Smith High School. Equally as much, David enjoyed spending time at home with family and friends working in the yard, gardening and riding his tractors.
The family will receive friends on Sunday April 15, 2018 from 4-6 pm at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23320. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday April 16, 2018 at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Following the Burial, please join the family for a celebration/reception of David’s life in the funeral home's reception center.
